Research Description
Research interests in Liu lab focus on the molecular mechanism of human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) initiation and progression. Currently, we are studying the cell differentiation regulation in ESCC. We found that many of the calcium-relevant and differentiation associated genes were down-regulated in ESCC by cDNA microarray. We are now studying the function and regulation network of the genes. The long term goal is to understand the role of these genes in ESCC and to develop new intervention strategies based on the understanding of differentiation regulation in ESCC, and find the biomarkers for early detection of cancers.
