Welcome to Fan Lab

We study VIRUSES that make you SICK!!!

Fan lab research interests are largely directed towards studying the interactions between RNA viruses and host. Particularly, Iwe are interested in discovering novel host cellular proteins that exert pro-viral and/or antiviral activity on RNA viruses, including enteroviruses, flaviviruses, and alphaviruses. We employ diverse approaches to dissect the effects and mechanisms of proteins of interest on the viral life cycle and pathogenesis. We are interested in studying the “arms race” between viruses and their host factors or intrinsic restriction factors. These findings may shed light on the barriers of viral tropism and pathogenesis across different host species. Furthermore, the discovery of a common host factor required for viral infection may provide a valuable insights into development of antiviral therapeutics.
